4-H Camp Sacandaga in Speculator, New York has had a wonderful run since its inception in 1945.  Over the years it has employed dedicated staff, provided excellent programs and has had a positive impact on innumerable youth.  For 59 summers, 4-H Camp Sacandaga has provided a safe residential community in an Adirondack setting where all young people have participated in personal growth experiences that have emphasized life skill development, positive social interactions, environmental stewardship, independence, and team building.

However, at the present time, it is no longer feasible for the three stake-holding Associations of Cornell Cooperative Extension (Fulton/Montgomery, Oneida, and Warren Counties) to own and operate the 4-H youth residential camp facility.   The three Cornell Cooperative Extension Association Boards of Directors have approved the sale of 4-H Camp Sacandaga and its assets and thus the Board of Directors of 4-H Camp Sacandaga has a mandate to do so.  The closing of 4-H Camp Sacandaga for the 2005 summer season and its impending sale are not a reflection on past staff and programs.

11 Nine other 4-H residential camping opportunities are still available in New York State to all young people, whether or not they are 4-H members.  Visit www.4hcampsny.org/camps.htm for more information.
