The Staff at 4-H Camp Sacandaga

4-H Camp Sacandaga staff and counselors have been selected based on their background, experience training and interest in children. They have each completed a comprehensive one week training session in their course area as well as in counseling. The health and welfare of the campers is a primary consideration, therefore, issues such as contagious diseases, child abuse, homesickness and specific safety concerns are an integral part of the educational program for staff and counselors. Many of our staff are also trained in First Aid and CPR.

Our staff consists of young people from all around the country. We search for staff in colleges and institutions around the state and country, as well as advertising locally. Many staff use camp as a beginning or continuing step toward a degree in Education or the child care field. Some of our staff have evolved thought the ranks of campers in our Counselor In Training program to become counselors .

CIT.JPG (81078 bytes)We also employ counselors from Camp America, an organization dedicated to providing camps with highly qualified camp counselors from foreign countries.  In past seasons, we have had staff from England, Germany, and Russia. These staff members provide insight to many cultures that children often do not have exposure to. They provide camp with a fresh and unique perspective on the world around us.

One adult counselor / staff member is hired for each eight (8) campers.
